Entry 6:

The 26th Day of the 11th Month of the First Year of the Third Millennium

We found and hired a champion by the name of Gaston DeForte, who appears to be a true warrior, and a Marienberger by lineage. Though not from my village of Montmartre, he seems to fit in. As he carried only a dagger, we have equipped him with the brace of dueling pistols and spear that our youngblood had been carrying.

I have been hearing rumors of charms and other trinkets that allow for the alteration of the present or the divining of the future. While many including myself have considered such things mere superstitions, I have begun to wonder if there is not an aspect of truth, and therefore power, to be found in these things. When I sounded out these concepts with my men, I found many to be already of a superstitious nature and eager for such trinkets. Only Jean deVrai was skeptical, and it is he whom I most respect. But even he, after some time, agreed that in a place such as this, a reasonable investment into anything that could increase our resources and potentially preserve our selves would be a risk worthy of some gold and an open mind.

I pursued this thought by finding a shopkeeper who had among his possessions a wyrdstone pendulum, rumored to help find more of the precious substance. While I balk at carrying more wyrdstone close to us, I admit we are already holding onto 2 shards of the material, and this appears to contain only trace quantities of the stuff.

This leaves our treasury at 7gc - so equipping our youngblood, Henri, will have to wait. But between finding this device and bringing on a champion, today has been a good day.
